Musical Theatre is a huge Creative Industry, which generates millions for the British economy and provides work for a variety of performers, artists and highly skilled crafts people.
- There are different categories or genres of Musical Theatre, but all have at their hearts three elements: music, dance and acting.
- Throughout the course of S3, we will explore different types of Musical Theatre productions in addition to looking at different job roles within the musical theatre industry.
- Moreover, learners will have the opportunity to engage in practical activities surrounding each of the three elements.
The Aims of this subject are to develop skills as a solo performer as well as developing group performing skills. It also aims to aid with audition preparation, through setting up a programme best suited to each individual and creating a rehearsal schedule to ensure learners are ready for future auditions.
The S3 Musical Theatre programme will teach learners how to effectively evaluate their own and others performances, to help them develop not only their performance, but also their own knowledge of Musical Theatre.
The culmination of work across the year will be displayed in school concerts and school shows. Learners will be able to take advantage of the links we have created with external agencies such as the MGA Academy who provide workshops with industry professionals to really give students a glance into industry life.
Musical Theatre provides a great alternative route into Performing Arts, as this can help learners progress into NPA/HNC/HND and even onto a degree in Performing Arts. So, if you are ready to live your High School Musical dream, then be sure to choose Musical Theatre as one of your Subjects for S3.
